Sebastian Goebel spoke at PatentFORUM 2025 in Munich on the current state and the future of artificial intelligence in patent practice. The focus was a sober assessment: what already works, and where are the limits?

One central theme was the change in the work of patent attorneys: away from producing content, towards the critical validation of AI-generated results. With the term “vibe drafting”, Sebastian Goebel described the risk of adopting AI output uncritically, which in recent court cases has had considerable consequences.

His outlook for 2026: AI competence is developing from an optional additional qualification into a central professional requirement.
