Talk at World IP Day

On Friday, 11 April 2025, from 11:00 to 12:45, the online event “IP-Schutz in einer digitalen Welt – Softwarepatente, KI & Urheberrecht” (IP protection in a digital world – software patents, AI and copyright) takes place. Our founding partner Sebastian Goebel will give a talk there on “Softwarepatente: Lassen sich technische Innovationen im Bereich Software und KI patentieren?” (Software patents: can technical innovations in software and AI be patented?).

“One of the greatest misconceptions among inventors in the field of intellectual property is the assumption that software and AI innovations are as a matter of principle not patentable. In fact the opposite is the case: AI and software are among the most heavily patented fields of technology worldwide”, says Sebastian Goebel.

The difficulty often lies not in patentability as such, but in developing the right strategy and addressing the legal questions correctly.

The event deals with current questions of intellectual property in the digital world and is addressed to companies, founders in all sectors and anyone else with an interest. Alongside Sebastian Goebel’s contribution on software patents, Rechtsanwalt Sebastian Schwiering of Abedin & Schwiering Partnerschaft will speak on “KI in Social Media: Welche Inhalte dürfen erstellt und genutzt werden? Wie schützen Sie Ihr geistiges Eigentum?” (AI in social media: which content may be created and used? How do you protect your intellectual property?).

The event is held to mark World Intellectual Property Day in cooperation with the Patent- und Normenzentrum (PNZ), the Handwerkskammer (HWK) Aachen, AGIT and the Industrie- und Handelskammer (IHK) Aachen.
